Samantha & Nellie outfits review

I went to AGP today and picked up the new "Springtime" outfits for Nellie and Samantha I still cannot understand WHY they call them that since even in the trading card backs they are talking about Valentine's Day which takes place in Feb. which I don't think anyone can prove to call that spring. Okay outfits, Samantha's outfit comes with dress, pale pink ribbon and child size valentines to make. Two paper doilies one gold one sliver, two cupid cutouts (scraps) and a red heart I guess you supply the glue and child. Samantha's dress is sorta plan to me. The criss cross collar and belt are really the only things that wow me. The dress is covered with flower pattern and a v-neck with a pink triangle at the top to cover the body. There is pale pink pipeing around tha belt and collor and a small pearl colored button at the collar and belt. AG suggests Samantha's lacy short socks and her bone colored shoes from her lawn party. Something maybe the colors or the lacking frills seem to make this outfit somewhat plan to me. While I am not tottaly against the simple outfits I think this one might have been better with an accent of a strong color.
Nellie, out of both outfits this one is better but again you have to overlook things. The dress on whole makes up for the lace Sam's dress lacked. It looks very much like many of the dresses made for Sam. The dress lace on the bottom looks like the lawn party dress with the strips of eyelite lace and sold stripes in between of the same color as the dress in this case pink. Gathered waist, poofed sleaves and lace ruffle at the wrists. The collor is oversized and echos the bottom of the dress. Again a v-neck with a triangle cover piece of cloth this one with a trimed neck line. They put the SAME white tights into this outfit as well I still cannot fanthom why anyone at Mattel could see why this girl needs three pairs of white tights. Come on Mattel it is not like she is going to snag them on something. She comes with white tights, she christmas dress has white tights and now her "spingtime" dress has white tights. I mean is it really that inportant for her to have so many? I mean I do understand the need for short white lacy socks in half of Samantha's outfits I mean they're so well made and all and she like wears them ALL the time in the books [img]rolleyes.gif[/img] . But three pairs of white tights there has got to be another color or style I am sure. The accessiories are really nice though a little necklace for Nellie a white heart with flowers on it and a barrette bow with two interlocking hearts on it made up of rineshtones. Both which really jazz up the outfit and of course myself I enjoy little things like that so I do enjoy. Even though they say "springtime" and talk about Valentine's Day I am planning on my girls wearing them in Feb. The pink and the hearts make me feel these are meant to be Valantine's Day outfits.

Yeah, I don't understand why they call them Spring outfits if the outfits are Valentine colors and come with Valentine trading cards.

I went to AGP today, too. I really liked Nellie's dress. I'm sure that will make its way into my collection. I thought it was nice that tights and shoes were included. But I see your point about Nellie and all the white tights.

I wasn't too nuts about Samantha's dress. It did need some color.

I really liked the Valentine's Day Crafts book (the girls were wearing the "spring" dresses on the cover). The crafts seem a little too modern for Samantha's time but very pretty just the same.

Um Jecca, the tights DO snag! [img]frown.gif[/img] Send your "goddaughter" an extra pair if you don't want them. She loved Josefina's petticoat and her fairy princess dress!
